AYO HISTORY

The Allenton Youth Organization was established on May 1, 1973 by a group of parents who wanted to start a recreation department in the Town of Addison.  Those parents included Leo Hagner, Walter Rahlf, Duane Gundrum, John Spregger, Clem Jacak, Peter Ritger, and Tom Fuhrman.

At the time of incorporation, the mission statement of the Allenton Youth Organization (also known as “AYO”) was “To promote activities for Allenton area youth, to be a guiding light, to keep them occupied and interested in their development and to have the final result be the best young adults in the area.”

During the summer of 1973, there were 16 teams participating in AYO, including five major boys’ teams, four minor boys’ teams, four major girls’ teams, and three minor girls’ teams, with a total of 132 boys and 102 girls playing softball that inaugural season.

In 1973, the team sponsors included Kasten Manufacturing, Farmers, Inc., The Legion, Romie’s Service, Brosts Drive-In, Don’s Elevator, Allenton State Bank, Allenton Sno-Pacers, Jim’s Barber Shop, B & M Floor Covering, Wheels, Inc., Kirsch Cherry Bar, Hubie’s Hardware, Mielke’s Tavern, St. Lawrence Garage and Slinger Rotary Club.

AYO was not only created as a softball organization, but also held yearly activities, including paper drives, a dance and picnic, bowling parties, swimming program, and a Brewer Game outing.

By 1975, two years from its inception, the Allenton Youth Organization grew to work with the Veteran’s Park Board and received approval to purchase bleachers, permanent bases, a snow fence, and the hiring of an individual to maintain the diamond with use of town equipment.  That year, AYO held a party in conjunction with the opening of the new Addison Town Hall.
